Students Taking Academic Responsibility
What is a S.T.A.R. Binder?
The S.T.A.R. binder is a three ring binder that the third grade students in my classroom will use everyday to help them become organized and responsible. Third grade is a transitional year where students become more independent. Using the S.T.A.R. binder will give each student a good foundation to build on. The binder will contain labeled folders, pockets, and sheet protectors. It will also be a great way to maintain communication between home and school.
What Will I Find Inside the S.T.A.R. Binder?
Money Pocket- This is a zipper pencil pouch that will be in the front of the binder. It can be used to hold lunch money, book order money, field trip money, or any other money that needs to be turned in at school.
Labeled Folder- There will also be labeled folders inside the binder. One will be a plastic folder that is labeled Keep At Home/ Bring Back To School on the inside pockets. Papers that will be found in the keep at home side might be a class newsletter, graded papers, or school news. Papers that will be found in the bring back to school side might be homework or notes that need to be returned to school.
Eisenhower Elementary Agenda- Each student will receive an agenda from the school. These will be kept in the S.T.A.R. binders as well and should be signed by a parent each night.
Labeled Sheet Protectors- Behind the folder will be sheet protectors used to keep important school and class information safe. These will include:
Class List/ Daily Schedule
Lunch Menu
Monthly Newsletter
School Calendar
Spelling List
*Other sheets might be added if the need arises*
These binders will need to be at school everyday. This is very important in helping to teach students about responsibility and being organized! They should also be treated with great care!
